Hydronephrosis

Hydronephrosis is a condition characterized by the stretching or dilation of the area of the kidneys where urine accumulates. As a result of the pathology, a problem arises with the normal outflow of urine.

Symptoms

Hydronephrosis is a insidious disease, as it can progress without obvious signs in the early stages. The patient simply does not know they are ill, and therefore does not seek medical attention in a timely manner. Symptoms of the disease may only manifest when the organ is not functioning.

The main symptoms of hydronephrosis include:

  • dull pain (localized in the lower back);
  • severe renal colic (intense, often unbearable pain);
  • elevated body temperature.

Diagnosis

To detect the disease, the following examinations are conducted:

  • Ultrasound
  • CT or MRI
  • Nephroscintigraphy

Ultrasound and tomography reveal increased fluid accumulation. Nephroscintigraphy allows for the assessment of kidney functionality and the degree of impairment in the organ. Patients also undergo biochemical blood and urine tests (including special samples).

Important! The complete diagnostic complex for identifying the disorder is determined by the doctor based on the preliminary diagnosis, overall clinical picture, and individual characteristics of the patient.
